Essential Oils That Save Lives

One of the fundamental principles of the CERTs program is the probability that we will need to be the first responders in a major disaster. There may well be times in rural areas when we may be on our own without professional emergency response team help for days or even weeks. That proved to be the case in New Orleans, Louisiana during the Hurricane Katrina storm aftermath. In those cases there may not be any doctors, nurses, firemen, paramedics or for that matter medicine. Not every one believes in alternative medicine. However if we are in a situation where there is no medical help for days or even weeks, it may be helpful to us to know a little about alternative medicine and things we can do that could take the place of conventional medicines until they are available. I have a kit of Essential Oils in my CERTS medical kit that contain oils that are believed to help treat injury, relieve pain or stop bleeding. You will have to be your own judge as to weather these things will work. Of course the FDA does not approve any of these oils as medications and you should not consider them as a substitute for regular medicine or health care provider assistance when and where it is available. These oils are listed here simply as an alternative solution in an emergency situation where no other help is available.

NOTE:
When using any of these oils in emergency circumstances, where ever and when where it is possible, before using the oils try to find out what the persons allergic reactions may have been, if any, in the past. Be aware of skin sensitivity when using any of these oils. Never use these oils directly on the skin full strength with out diluting them with some other oil like cooking oil or olive oil. Some of these oils can cause irritation to the skin if used full strength on sensitive skin areas. Never put any of these oils directly in or around a persons eyes or other sensitive skin areas. If you can, find out if a person is pregnant or under a doctor's care. If they are able to communicate, ask them if they are taking any medications that might be effected by using these oils*. They may not know the answer to that question. Always keep in mind that you are not a physician, paramedic, police officer or firefighter. Make them aware of that. It would be a very rare case that these oils would interfere with any other medication.

You may want to check with your health care provider about using any of these oils ahead of time so you know the effects they may have on people who are under a doctors care, for example if they are taking a blood-thinning medication.

Always keep these oils out of the reach of children.
